What is the Confidential Musical Theatre Project?

A show is cast. The cast is sworn to secrecy about their role and the title of the show they're performing. There are no rehearsals. The cast prepare on their own with notes from the Director and Music Director.The cast arrives one hour before performance time and meet each other for the first time. The audience arrives, not knowing what show they're about to see. The show begins and the secret is revealed.

How It Started

The Confidential Musical Theatre Project is a concepted created by Marion Abbott in July 2014. The first musical ever presented this way was Sunday In The Park With George. The sold out audience gave it two standing ovations and it received a rave review.

The Confidential Musical Theatre Project went on to thrill audiences and artists in Los Angeles, Ottawa, Montreal, Cape Breton, New York, Pittsburg, Pickering, Kitchener, Halifax, Vancouver, Chicago and other cities. It is estimated that over 1500 artists have kept the secret and both amateur and Broadway pros have accepted this unique performing challenge.

Performer Submissions Now Open!

INFORMATION

A single performance will take place on Saturday, October 25th, 2025 at Christ Church Deer Park. The performance begins at 7:00PM and performers will be called for 5:30PM to meet each other, run a vocal warm up, and one song. A small honourarium is paid to all performers (CAEA members will be contracted in accordance with the DOT Agreement).

The show has a director and a music director, who will provide helpful notes via email ahead of October 25th, 2025. Please note, there are no formal or in-person rehearsals until the group meets for the first time on the day of the show.

The director will work with anyone in the event there is staging business to “solve” on the day of. Any moments of stage intimacy or stage fighting will be staged (or omitted entirely) per industry standard.

Using the submission form below, please submit a headshot, performance resume, a self-tape of you singing two of your favourite songs from the musical theatre canon, and tell us a bit about yourself to be considered for the Toronto revival of the Confidential Musical Theatre Project.

Submissions close September 14th, 2025. We will keep your materials on file for future consideration. We are accepting submissions from Non-Equity artists and CAEA members.
